Bio:
Shay Wilson has the attention span of a gnat who's been on speed for two days and the boredom threshold of a four year old who ate Skittles for breakfast. She has worked in the film biz in various capacities, which means she's done everything from rigging a squid tentacle to a sink, to driving to sets in the middle of nowhere on two hours sleep and partying at film festivals while conducting international business. She can often be found knitting, making jewelry, blogging, producing documentaries, painting, and working on her UBC Creative Writing MFA thesis simultaneously. She went to film school, also holds a B.A. in English Literature, and when she grows up she wants to be the Coen Brothers crossed with Nathanael West.
What is The Ongoing Project?
It started out as a place to post my creative projects which I fully admit don't always get finished in a reasonable amount of time. So I'll mention them and then you might see them again finished months later or they'll vanish for all eternity. My inspirations, style and interests are also an Ongoing Project.
What's my Style?
If you're looking for consistency, this ain't the place. I'm an avid thrifter and follower of fashion who takes inspiration from many sources and tries out different things as the whim strikes. My interest in fashion is an extension of other creative pursuits. I loathe looking like everyone else, carbon copies make me yawn. You'll generally find me attempting to look unique with a nod in the direction of a current trend or designer I love. I'm a little bit dark. You'll also find I'm quite into vintage clothing and old stuff generally.
As for image and DIY inspiration, I try to post things that aren't already all over the internet. When I do post things that are all over the internet, it's because I have something different to say about them.
Where do you live?
Canada, yo. We're everyone's little backwards fashion cousin and don't have access to a lot of cool shops you guys in the rest of the world do (even online ones, sniff!) so that's one of the reasons I spend so much time on the internet. The other thing about Canada though, is we have much better thrift shops than you do.
Thanks for stopping by. If there's anything else you want to know, comment or email and I'll post it.
Cheers,
Shay
